5 Worst Graphics Cards Till Date to Avoid
Do you know some of the worst graphics cards in history? Today, AMD and NVIDIA GPUs are, without a doubt, the best graphics cards that you can get your hands on. However, these companies once delivered the lowest-quality graphics cards.
Let’s see these worst graphics cards you should probably avoid purchasing.
The Worst Graphics Card List
1. 3DFX Voodoo 4 4500
The first one is the Voodoo 4 4500 AGP graphics card by 3DFX, launched on October 13th, 2000. There was a time when 3DFX was a formidable company, but I am sure most of you are hearing the name for the first time.
It uses the 250nm process and VSA-100 graphics processor and supports DirectX 6.0 in its Napalm 26-220 variant.
But when they launched their Voodoo 5 models, they all had severe performance and technical issues. Due to the lack of DirectX 11 and DirectX 12, the Voodoo 4 4500 AGP was unlikely to run the latest games.
Two of the biggest problems were thermal issues that limited GPU lifespans and motherboard compatibility issues. Despite its high price, it had poor performance and faced many challenges from its main competitors. After that, the company faced bankruptcy and was shut down.
2. Nvidia GeForce 210
Second, NVIDIA GeForce 210 is among the worst graphics cards. It is the slowest graphics card I have ever seen. In October 2009, NVIDIA launched the GeForce 210 graphics card. With its GT218 graphics processor running at 40 nanometers, the GT218-300-A2 variant enables DirectX 11.1. While it supports DirectX 11, its feature level is only 10_1, which can cause problems with games that require DirectX 11 or DirectX 12.
GTX 210 is an entry-level GPU. Even back then, it was a weak entry-level GPU. You can see 210 was a weak GPU back then, and by today’s standards, it’s even slower than some integrated GPUs, so it won’t be able to handle much.
In gaming benchmarks, it performs significantly worse than the Radeon HD 4550, which means even the older GeForce 9400 GT is faster.
There is not enough memory or base clock speed on the graphic card so you will see less FPS, even in games like PUBG and CGSO. Therefore, consider investing in the latest GPU so you can play AAA games with it.
3. ATI Radeon HD 5450
Another outdated graphics card is AMD or ATI Radeon HD 5450. In February 2010, ATI released the Radeon HD 5450 graphics card. In its Cedar PRO variant, the card supports DirectX 11, built on a 40 nm process and using the Cedar graphics processor.
The performance of the HD 5450 is inferior to today’s generation cards, as it has outdated 1 GB GDDR3 video memory, lower clock speeds, etc. Furthermore, you will not be able to enjoy high-definition videos of your favorite shows and movies.
If we talk about gaming benchmarks, the card supports various games and can manage to run them at 720p. But frankly speaking, this will only allow you to play old titles. Usually, if you set the card on a low setting, you will be able to play games that were released before 2013 or 2014.
4. AMD R9 285
In September 2014, AMD released a new graphics card, the Radeon R9 285, aimed at the performance segment. In its Tonga PRO variant, built on a 28 nm process, the card is based on a Tonga graphics processor and supports the DirectX 12 standard in its 28 nm form factor.
This card is slightly better than the last AMD Radeon HD 5450; however, if you want to play modern titles, you cannot expect it to deliver smooth gameplay due to its 2GB VRAM.
In modern games at high settings, you barely get 30 to 35 fps, which is not a pleasant experience. As for its competition from NVIDIA, the closest competitor would be the GTX 760, which is more advanced in terms of performance as well as price.
However, if you want to get the most out of your graphics card, I suggest you go for a GTX 970 or GTX 980.
In conclusion, you may have it if you are a casual gamer or only need to edit photos and watch movies at 4K settings. Even so, I would still suggest that you invest in a high-end graphics card in order to run maximum games and, at the same time, perform other graphics-related tasks as well.
5. NVIDIA Titan X Pascal (Expensive Card but Powerful)
The last card I put on the list is the Nividia Titan Pascal X. On August 2nd, 2016, NVIDIA launched this as an enthusiast-class graphics card. Based on the GP102 graphics processor and manufactured on a 16 nm process, the GP102-400-A1 variant supports DirectX 12. Therefore, TITAN X Pascal is capable of running any modern game.
Overall, this card is powerful and robust, with 12 GB of DDR5 VRAM. Nevertheless, that is not the case since it is so expensive and you cannot include it in the budget.
You can play games at 1440p with this card in high resolution and even at 4K with lower frame rates. However, if you want better performance, you can invest in other cards which will provide you with premium features, such as GTX 1080 Ti and RTX 3060.
So, in terms of value for your dollar or in terms of performance per dollar, Titans have never been and will never rank as the preferred reasonable option for most gamers.
